Of or pertaining to a large, widely distributed family (Poaceae) of annual or perennial herbs, the grasses. The inflorescence is spicate, racemose, or paniculate, with very small flowers, generally perfect or staminate. The fruit is a seedlike grain (caryopsis), having a starchy endosperm.
