Definition of: property

(prop′ər·tē) noun plural ·ties
1. Any object of value that a person may lawfully acquire and hold; anything that may be owned; stocks, land, etc.; any possession.
2. Ownership or dominion; the legal right to the possession, use, enjoyment, and disposal of a thing; a valuable legal right or interest in or to particular things.
3. Whatever belongs or pertains to any object, as a distinguishing quality or characteristic; a peculiarity.
4. In the theater, any portable article, except scenery, which is not personally owned by the actors, but which is used by them in the performance, as flowers, books, dishes, etc.
5. A characteristic attribute of a body or substance under stated conditions, especially in relation to the senses, as color, odor, hardness, density, etc.
