A member of a Protestant denomination that grew out of the Anabaptist movement in the 16th century, and still flourishes in Europe and the United States: named after Menno Simons, 1496?–1561, a leader of the sect in the Netherlands. They are opposed to the taking of oaths, the holding of public office, and military service.
