1. The act, process, means, or result of adjusting; regulation; arrangement; settlement.
2. Mech. a An instrument or means whereby something may be adjusted; that which regulates; as, the adjustments of a watch, telescope, or microscope. b A device, as a screw or wedge, for raising or adjusting a part so as to take up wear or lost motion.
4. The determining of the just amount of insurance payable for losses, as in fire or shipping; also, of the just amount payable for the failure of an article to fulfil a guarantee made of its reasonable wear and use.
