(bə·tēk′, bat′ik) noun
1. A process for coloring fabrics, originating in the East Indies, in which parts of a fabric are covered with melted wax so that only the uncovered portions will take the dye, the wax then being dissolved in boiling water. The process is often repeated to obtain multicolored designs.
