1. Archit. The vaulted roof of a rotunda; a cupola.
2. Any cuplike covering, vertical extension, or dome–shaped top.
3. A majestic building; specifically, following Italian and German usage, a cathedral.
4. In the orthorhombic, monoclinic, and triclinic crystal systems, a form whose faces intersect the vertical axis and one lateral axis. When the face is parallel to the shorter axis, it is called a brachydome; when parallel to the longer axis, a macrodome.
