1. Anat. Condensed connective tissue forming sheets or layers, for the investment of organs or the insertion of muscles.
2. Archit. A flat member or broad volute; a jutting brick course in any story of a building except the uppermost. See illustration under ENTABLATURE.
3. Something that binds together, as a fillet; a band.
4. A bandage.
