Definition of: gru-gru

(gr′gr′) noun
1. Either of two West Indian palms (Acrocomia aculeata or A. sclerocarp(a) the nuts of which yield a butter-like oil used for scenting toilet soap: also gru–gru palm.
2. The larva of a South American palm weevil (Rhynchophorus palmarum), destructive to the gru–gru and other palms and sugarcane, and eaten as a delicacy: also gru–gru worm. [<Sp. grugrú <Cariban]
