(pen′dənt) noun
1. Anything that hangs or depends from something else, either for ornament or for use.
2. Something attached to another thing as an ending; an appendix.
3. A parallel; one of a pair.
4. Archit. A hanging ornament, as a long boss or knot, particularly in late Perpendicular work, on ceilings, roofs, etc.
5. The stem of a watchcase and the ring by which it is attached to a chain.
6. A suspended chandelier; also, an electrical fitting hanging from a ceiling, lamp, chandelier, etc., by which to switch on and off a light. Also spelled pendent.
