1. A whitish, steel–gray, malleable and ductile metallic element (symbol Pt), usually found native, and also in combination. It is very infusible and resistant to most acids, has a high electrical resistance, and is widely used as a catalyst, for jewelry, and in dental work. See ELEMENT.
