1. In Greek mythology, the seven daughters of Atlas (Maia, Electra, Taygeta, Alcyone, Celaeno, Sterope, and Merope), who were set by Zeus among the stars: also called Atlantides.
2. Astron. A loose cluster of many hundred stars in the constellation Taurus, six of which are visible to ordinary sight and represent the daughters of Atlas, of whom the seventh, Merope, is known as the Lost Pleiad.
