4. Anything or anyone that occasions discomfort, pain, or annoyance; a vexation.
5. The name of the Old English rune ρ; also, the corresponding Icelandic character: equivalent originally to th, both voiced and unvoiced, but finally only to the unvoiced sound, as in thorn, from which it derives its name. Y or y is sometimes used as a makeshift for it in early English, as in the contraction ye. Compare EDH.
