1. A state in which the soul seems to have passed out of the body; an ecstasy; rapture.
2. Psychol. A condition between sleep and waking characterized by dissociation, involuntary movements, and automatisms of behavior, as in hypnosis and mediumistic seances.
3. A dreamlike state marked by bewilderment and an insensibility to ordinary surroundings.
