Definition of: wistaria
(wis·târ′ē·ə) noun
1. Any of a genus (Wistaria) of woody twining shrubs of the bean family, with pinnate leaves, elongated pods, and handsome clusters of blue, purple, or white flowers. The two best–known species are the Chinese wistaria (W. sinensis) and the later blossoming Japanese wistaria (W. floribunda). The common spelling wis·te·ri·a (wis·tir′ē·ə,-târ′-) was the one originally given by the botanist Nuttall.
