“Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead.
Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow.
Just walk beside me and be my friend.”
“Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead.
Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow.
Just walk beside me and be my friend.”
This quote can take many meanings, as can any number of poems or lyrics. Most artistic poems or lyrics, like the above, are open to the interpretation of the person reading it. They are meant to evoke thought and feelings.
That being said, I think one of the most common meanings of this particular quote is that friends are supposed to support one another and be equals, caring for one another and loving one another. A friend is not meant to be neglected, but they also should not always demand the lead or spotlight. Friendship, like most relationships, work when there is mutual love, respect, and compromise.
