   Praxiteles says:

   The phrase “salad days” refers to a time of youthful inexperience. It is of Shakespeare’s coinage, and it plays on the metaphorical use of the colour green: green, as in salad; and green, as in unripe fruit – hence, the immaturity of youth. More recently, the phrase has come to mean the time when one was at the peak of his or her abilities.
