1. A member of certain Algonquian tribes formerly inhabiting territory near the mouth of the Ottawa river, and of certain other tribes north of the St. Lawrence river.
2. The language spoken by these tribes, belonging to the East Central subfamily of Algonquian Indian languages. Also Al·gon·kin (al·gong′kin).
