(bə·räzh′) noun
1. Mil. Concentrated fire on a part of any enemy's lines to prevent the advance of reinforcements.
2. Mil. A curtain of fire to close off part of the front from enemy assault, isolate part of his position, or, by movable curtain, to protect advance of troops.
3. Any overwhelming attack, as of words or blows.
—balloon barrage A curtain of captive balloons raised above a defense area to entangle enemy aircraft and prevent penetration of the area.
