In Greek mythology, a Phoenician prince who killed a dragon sacred to Ares and sowed its teeth on the site of Thebes: from these teeth sprang up armed men who fought and destroyed each other except for five who helped him found the city. Cadmus introduced the Phoenician alphabet into Greece.
