(shev′rən) noun
1. A V-shaped insigne, made of cloth and worn on the sleeve to indicate rank, rating, wounds, or length of service: used in the U.S. Army, the police force, etc. In the U.S. service, the rank of corporal is indicated by two chevrons, sergeant by three.
2. Any V-shaped mark or zigzag pattern, especially as used in Romanesque architecture: also chevron molding.
