(klēt) noun
1. A strip of wood or iron fastened across a surface, or nailed against a wall, to strengthen, support, or prevent slipping.
2. Naut. a A piece of metal or wood with arms, usually fastened in place by a bolt, on which to belay a rope. b A wedgelike piece of wood fastened to a spar to keep rigging from slipping up or down.
3. A piece of metal or leather fastened to the underside of a shoe to prevent slipping: used by athletes.
4. A spurlike attachment used to grip a pole or tree in climbing.
