Definition of: density

(den′sə·tē) noun plural ·ties
1. Compactness; the closeness of any space distribution.
2. Physics The mass of a substance per unit of its volume. In the metric system the unit of density is the mass of a cubic centimeter of water at 4°C.
3. Sociol. The number of specified units, as persons, families, or dwellings, per acre or square mile.
4. Electr. The quantity of current flowing through a given cross–section of a conductor: usually expressed in terms of amperes per square centimeter or square inch: also current density.
