A member of a great military order founded in 1119 for the defense of the Latin kingdom of Jerusalem and for the protection of pilgrims, and known as the Knights of the Temple, or Knights Templars, from the fact that their headquarters was once next to the so-called Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem.
2. A Free-mason of an order claiming descent from the medieval order of Knights Templars.
