(prop′ə·zish′ən) noun
1. A scheme or proposal offered for consideration or acceptance.
2. U.S. Colloq. Any matter or person to be dealt with: a tough proposition.
3. Colloq. An indecent or immodest proposal.
4. A subject or statement presented for discussion.
5. Logic A statement in which something (the subject) is affirmed or denied in terms of something else (the predicate), the two being related usually by a copula. In the propositions, Grass is green and Grass is not red, grass in each case is the subject and green and red are the predicates respectively.
6. Math. A statement of a truth to be demonstrated (a theorem) or of an operation to be performed (a problem). See synonyms under PROPOSAL.
