1. A plant of the mint family (genus Salvia), especially the common garden sage (S. officinalis), a stiff, shrubby perennial with gray-green leaves and purple, blue, or white flowers: used for flavoring meats, etc.
2. A light, greenish-gray color, like the color of sage leaves.
3. Any other plant of the genus Salvia, as the scarlet sage (S. splendens).
4. The Jerusalem sage (genus Phlomis), also of the mint family.
