1. Often cap. The systematized Christian logic, philosophy, and theology of medieval scholars from the 10th to the 15th centuries, based on Aristotle's Logic and Metaphysics and the writings of the early Christian fathers. See HUMANISM.
2. Any system of teaching which insists on traditional doctrines and forms.
3. A similar teaching of the present day given especially in seminaries of the Roman Catholic Church.
