(stub) noun
1. The part of a tree trunk, bush, etc., that remains when the main part is cut down.
2. Any short projecting part or piece; a remnant, as of a pencil, candle, cigarette, cigar, or broken tooth.
3. In a checkbook or the like, one of the inner ends upon which a memorandum is entered, and which remains when the check is detached; also, the detachable coupon of a theater or other ticket.
4. Anything blunt, short, or stumpy, as a worn horseshoe nail or a stub pen.
5. Obs. A log; block; blockhead.
6. The title of a row in a statistical table; also, the first or reading column in such a table.
