(tang) noun
1. A slender shank or tongue projecting from some metal part, as the end of a sword blade or of a chisel, for inserting into or fixing upon a handle, hilt, etc.; also, a tonguelike part, as of a belt buckle.
2. A penetrating taste, flavor, or odor, sometimes a disagreeable one; also, a trace; hint: a tang of pepper.
3. Any distinct quality, other than one that is sweet.
