Pathol.
A persistent and wasting infectious disease of wide distribution, caused by a bacterium (genus Brucella) which is usually transmitted to man in the milk of cows and goats. The disease is marked by fluctuating or recurrent fever, with swelling of the joints, neuralgic pains, profuse perspiration, and enlargement of the spleen: also called brucellosis, Malta fever, Mediterranean fever.
