Definition of: vice president

An officer ranking next below a president, and acting, on occasion, in his place. The vice president of the United States is elected at the same time and in the same manner as the president, and is designated by the Constitution to be president of the Senate and to succeed the president in case of that officer's death, resignation, removal, or inability.
