Any of various deciduous, typically European and Asian trees (genus Juglans), cultivated as ornamental shade trees and valued for their timber and their edible nuts; especially, the black walnut (J. nigra) of the eastern United States, and the English, Persian, Circassian, or Caucasian walnut (J. regia).

3. The shagbark hickory, or its nut.
