Definition of: War College

One of four colleges in the United States giving advanced instruction to experienced military, naval, and air officers; specifically, the Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, under the Department of the Army; the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, under the Navy Department; and the Air War College, near Montgomery, Alabama, under the Department of the Air Force. The National War College, Washington, D.C., operating under the Joint Chiefs of Staff, prepares officers of the armed services, the State Department, and other executive departments for duties concerned with national security.
