A province of Pakistan comprising all of Pakistan west of the Republic of India with the exception of the Federal District of Pakistan around and including Karachi (812 square miles); formed in 1955 by the merger of the former provinces of Baluchistan, North–West Frontier Province, Punjab and Sind, along with Bahawalpur, Khairpur, and the other princely states in the area; 309,424 square miles; capital, Lahore.
2. Formerly, the region comprising all of the western portion of Pakistan, including the four former provinces, the princely states, and the present federal district; 310,236 square miles.
