Definition of: Yuga
(y′gə) noun
An age; cycle; a period of long duration according to Hindu thought. Each Mahâ-yuga or great age of the world, consisting of 4,320,000 years, is subdivided into four Yugas or ages: Krita-yuga (1,728,000 years), Treta-yuga (1,296,000 years), Dvâpara-yuga (864,000 years), and Kali-yuga (432,000 years), which began in 3094 B.C. These ages decrease successively in excellence; the life of man is supposed to last for 400 years in the first, 300 years in the second, 200 years in the third, and 100 years in the present or Kali age. Also Yug (yg). [<Skt., an age, yoke]
