—adverb In like manner. [OE gelic, onlic]
—a·like′ness noun Synonyms (adj.): akin, analogous, equal, equivalent, homogeneous, identical, kindred, like, resembling, similar, synonymous, uniform. Two or more objects are alike when each resembles the other or others; by modifiers alike may be made to express more or less resemblance; as, these houses are somewhat (that is, partially) alike; or, exactly (that is, in all respects) alike; or alike in color or structure. Substances are homogeneous which are made up of elements of the same kind, or which are the same in structure. To say “this is the identical man” is to say not merely that he is similar to the one in mind, but that he is the very same person. Compare IDENTICAL. Antonyms: different, dissimilar, distinct, heterogeneous, unlike.
