1. A systematized body of law.
2. A system of signals, characters, or symbols with arbitrary, conventionalized meanings, used in communication: Language is a form of code.
3. A set of prearranged symbols, usually letters, used for purposes of secrecy or brevity in transmitting messages: the meanings of the symbols are given in a code book. Compare CIPHER.
