1. A large, lizardlike, amphibious reptile (order Crocodilia) widely distributed in tropical regions, with long jaws, armored skin, and webbed feet; especially, the Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus), and the American crocodile (C. americanus). The head is longer and narrower than that of an alligator, and the lower molars shut into marginal notches instead of pits.
