Numerous sources cite the source of the name Idlewild as the novel Ann of Green Gables or a resort in NY, except there is a problem with these two theories, throughout rural America, especially in the West there are numerous places named Idlewild (often different spellings) that predate either the novel or the resort, so where does the name originally come from?
