1. The act of increasing; enlargement.
2. That which is added; increase: opposed to decrement.
3. Math. The amount by which a varying quantity increases between two of its stages.
4. Mil. The quantity of powder added to, or subtracted from, the propelling charge of separate loaded artillery ammunition to compensate for differences in range. See synonyms under INCREASE.
