1. Any of certain birds of prey of the hawk family (Falconidae), having long, pointed wings and a forked tail. Some species are scavengers, as the pariah kite (genus Milvus) of India.
2. A light frame, usually of wood, covered with paper or some light fabric, to be flown in the air at the end of a long string.
3. Naut. One of several light sails for use in a very light wind, as skysails.
4. In commerce, any negotiable paper not representing a genuine transaction but so employed as to obtain money, sustain credit, etc.; also, a bank check which is drawn with insufficient funds on deposit to secure the advantage of the time period prior to collection: considered to be a malpractice.
