1. Of or pertaining to an advanced Bronze Age civilization that flourished in Crete from about 3000 to 1100 B.C.
2. Denoting two types of linear script using pictographic and syllabic signs, found on clay tablets at Minos's palace at Cnossus, Nestor's palace at Pylos, and other Greek and Cretan sites, and dating from the 17th to 13th centuries B.C.: Linear A is thought to be Akkadian on the basis of a tentative decipherment made in 1957; Linear B, deciphered in 1952, is an Achaean dialect of Greek.
