Definition of: musical chairs
A marching game played to music, in which the contestants circle around a row of opposite–facing chairs, one less than the number of players. When the music stops, each marcher rushes for a chair, one person for whom there is no chair being eliminated. On each round, a chair is removed until finally only one remains, the contestant reaching it first being declared the winner. Also called “Going to Jerusalem.”
