Definition of: point system

1. Printing A standard system of sizes for type bodies, 996 points of which are equal to 35 centimeters, one point being .0138 inch (or approximately 1/72 inch), as adopted by the Typefounders' Association of the United States.
2. Any system of raised letters for the blind, as braille, in which the alphabet is formed of groups of raised dots or points.
3. An academic system of allowing students to progress according to points or credits earned in individual subjects.
4. Any method of rating based on the accumulation of points.
