Definition of: saddle

(sad′l) noun
1. A seat or pad for a rider, as on the back of a horse or on a bicycle.
2. A padded cushion for a horse's back, as part of a harness or to support a pack, etc. For illustration see HARNESS.
3. The two hindquarters of a carcass, as of mutton, veal, or venison; also, the undivided loins of such a carcass.
4. Some part like or likened to a saddle, as the lower part of the back of a fowl. See illustration under FOWL.
5. Geog. A depression across the summit of a ridge; a pass.
6. Meteorol. A low–pressure area between two anticyclones; a col.
7. Something resembling a saddle in form or position, as a bearing for a car axle.
