Any aggregate of substances exhibiting the properties of a colloid, as sols, gels, emulsions, etc. Eight of these systems are known, occurring in solid, liquid, and gaseous forms, each identified in terms of the relationship existing between the disperse phase and the dispersion medium. See table below.
