2. A song of the chorus in Greek drama without dialog.
3. An independent performance, usually light or humorous, introduced between the acts of a play or the parts of a performance.
4. A short passage of music played to bridge a transition; an intermezzo; also, an instrumental passage between stanzas of a hymn, between portions of a formal church service, between the acts of a play or opera, or the like.
