The City of London represents London within its ancient boundaries and is the business and financial center: often called the City, 1 square mile. The County of London comprises the cities of London and Westminster and 28 metropolitan boroughs; administered by the London County Council; 117 square miles. Greater London, embracing the City and Metropolitan Police Districts, comprises the County of London, County of Middlesex, and parts of Surrey, Hertford, Essex, and Kent, an area roughly within a radius of 15 miles from Charing Cross; 693 square miles.
