Definition of: moment

(mō′mənt) noun
1. A very short period of time; an instant; also, a point of time; definite period.
2. The present time.
3. Consequence or importance, as in influencing judgment or action.
4. Stat. The arithmetic mean of the deviations in a frequency distribution, each deviation being raised to the same power.
5. Physics a The product of a quantity and its distance to some significant related point: moment of area, moment of mass, etc. b The measure of a force with reference to its effect in producing rotation: also called torque.
