(wāt) noun
1. The measure of the force with which bodies tend toward the earth's center, or the quality thus measured. The weight of a body is a product of its mass and the acceleration due to gravity.
2. Any object or mass which weighs a definite or specific amount.
3. A definite mass of brass, iron, or other metal, used in weighing machines as a standard; any unit of heaviness, as a pound, ounce, etc.
4. Any mass used as a counterpoise or to exert pressure by force of gravity: a paperweight.
5. Burden; pressure; oppressiveness: the weight of care; the weight of an attack.
6. Any quantity of heaviness, expressed indefinitely or in terms of standard units.
7. The relative tendency of any mass toward a center of superior mass: the weight of a planet.

10. The comparative heaviness of clothes, as appropriate to the season: summer weight.
