1. Zool. A long flexible snout, as in the tapir; specifically, the trunk of an elephant.
2. Entomol. One of various tubular structures protruding or capable of being protruded from the front of the head of certain insects, as the combined mouth parts adapted for sucking in bees, or in certain dipterous insects, as the mosquito, the sheath and needlelike organs for piercing.
